Brave Docs and RNs on CNN’s Baghdad Combat Hospital
Friday, November 10th, 2006
CNN is doing a great service both to the public and the US forces in Iraq by airing the grim medical realities of war.
Those of us who work in ER are familiar with the mind-numbing heart-wrenching situations that confront ER personnel on a daily basis but still one does not quite get 100% immune to it. It’s tough watching.
We watch as 10 Combat Support Hospital staff goes through its heroic routine to save blown up limbs, bullet and IED (improvised explosive device) wounds, burnt bodies, mangles young lives… and years and years of physical therapy for those lucky enough to survive.
It’s jarring. Educating. Reminds us once again the kind of special vocation nursing is.
