Then I heard 300 people getting sick eating at an Indianapolis Olive Garden. People throwing up, developing fever, suffering from diarrhea. The authorities said this recent episode has nothing to do with the e-coli outbreak at Taco Bells.
Figure this: I got sick myself eating some pecan pie on Friday night, at a nice chain restaurant whose name shall remain unmentioned.
Then I call a friend to commiserate and guess what? She was also poisoned eating chicken at an office party. What are the chances all that happening within the same week?
My friend said there are over 150,000 cases of salmonella poisoning a year in the United States but we don’t hear most of it. U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says although 40,000 cases of food poisoning are reported the actual number might be as high as 30 times that.
I drank a lot of clean water, about three liters a day to flush out my system, cut out all solid food and rested a lot. Just watched some old movies at home.
And on day number three I still feel a bit weak but clear and back on track. I should be up on my feet running around tomorrow.
But probably I’ll stay away from any parties or restaurants for a few days. Just in case…
Highway emergency numbers change from state to state. Here are a selected few:
*55 for Oklahoma
*77 for Maine
#77 for Maryland
*47 for North Carolina
*677 for Ontario, Canada
If you do not know your coverage area try this method: just dial 112. Your cell phone will scan and connect with the nearest available emergency service.
What’s more, with most cell phones, you can dial 112 even when the keypad is locked. Try it right now and see if this is true for your own cell phone. This little-known universal emergency number can come in very handy when you are traveling in a far away isolated spot and you need help.
It’s that time of the year again. You’re ready for Haloween? Any good recipes and trick-or-treat ideas?
Send me your Halloween and pie recipes. I’d be very happy to post them here and share them with all our staff, clients and readers.
